GUILLOTINE A.D. first took shape in 2003, when brothers Adam & Lance Miller first formed the band, then known as GUILLOTINE, in their rural southwest Georgia town. The brothers initially grew up on β70s hard rock legends such as ZZ Top, AC/DC, Van Halen, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and came of age during the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, cutting their metal teeth on Shadows Fall and Lamb of God. Life saw the brothers soon head on different paths for the next decade, with GUILLOTINE going on pause during that time.
The brother duo reformed GUILLOTINE in 2015. Adam & Lance now took inspiration from the classic death metal of Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under, the New Orleans sludge of Crowbar and Eyehategod, and the Scandinavian black metal of Mayhem and early Enslaved. The duo soon followed that reformation with a re-location to Athens, Georgia, where they met drummer Evan Posey. The newly-materialized incarnation of the band became the perfect outlet for the updated direction their music had taken. The band self-described the motivation of their new sound as wanting
βto sound like if Obituary moved to New Orleans and tried to play down-tuned versions of Satyricon songs.β
GUILLOTINE’s released their self-titled and self-released debut album in October 2017. The group soon took their new sound to live stages all over the Southeast United States, supporting bands such as Goatwhore, Cannibal Corpse, and Hate Eternal. The band also participated in Slaughter Que 2019, which was headlined by acts such as Exodus, Kataklysm, Exhorder, and more. The trio also shared stages alongside fellow rising extreme metal acts such as Cloak, Frozen Soul and Sanguisugabogg.
The band began working on what would become their upcoming new album in 2019. The group officially changed their name to GUILLOTINE A.D. in December 2021 and signed with M-Theory Audio to formally usher in a new era for the band along with the new album, Born To Fall, available everywhere now.
